About Your Instructor: Dan Hopping
Dan Hopping has been a federally licensed gunsmith since June of 1963. He has continually improved his craft by acquiring a bigger hammer each year.
He performs restoration, conservation, preservation and appraisals of firearms for museums, collectors and Mumford Restoration. He maintains firearms for the North Carolina State Historic Sites, reenactors and history museums. He also improves the operation of modern firearms to give a significant advantage for serious competitors in several shooting venues.
Since the 1960s he has been building, tuning and repairing long rifles and muskets for reenactors of the Revolutionary War and Civil War periods. As a historian, he gives presentations on the founding of our Country and performs living history as a Revolutionary War soldier for schools, organizations and historic events.
Dan served stateside in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve during the Viet Nam Conflict and is President Emeritus of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of North Carolina, Past Deputy Governor General of the North Carolina Society of Colonial Wars, Past Commander and Senior Vice Commander of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, member of the Overmountain Victory Trail Association Board of Directors, Past Master of WGH Lodge #218 AF&AM, and a member the Military Order of Foreign Wars, Military Order of the Loyal Legion, the Sons of the American Revolution and other such organizations.
When not pounding on firearms, he functions as the President and CEO of Next Retail Group (NRG), a consulting and services corporation serving the retail industry with customers such as Walmart, Kroger and Chanel. NRG helps retail corporations deal with the rapidly changing technology landscape.
