MUMFORD RESTORATION HISTORY
How It All Began
Bernard Mumford, the founder and owner of Mumford Restoration, got his start at the tender age of 19 while working as a stone mason. One day, his mother, who dabbled in English antiques, approached Bernard to see if he would help restore them on the days he wasn’t working as a stone mason. It was at that moment he had an epiphany—if he worked in a furniture repair shop he could work inside!
Building, repairing, and experimenting with basic finishes was a natural fit for Bernard. He immediately realized he had an affinity for the profession and as a result he refined his skills, mentoring under master craftsmen—the results he produced were so impressive, they led to referrals from numerous friends and neighbors. One of his first crash courses in furniture restoration involved refinishing a few hundred chairs for a friend who was remodeling restaurants.
First Shop
After attending college for only 3 days, Bernard decided it just wasn’t for him. His passion for restoring and repairing antiques, fine-furniture, and family heirlooms was just too great. Realizing their son’s dreams, his parents loaned him the money to buy a piano restoration shop – the first of many lessons that have taught him how to successfully own and operate a furniture repair shop for 40 years.
To this day, Mumford Restoration continues to lead the industry with its expertise and focus on restoring sentimental furniture, upholstery, art, brass, silver, pianos, clocks, and so much more. Responding in times of tragedy from water, fire or wind, the third-generation craftsmen at Mumford Restoration can restore your sentimental pieces to their original grandeur.
Mumford Restoration has always been a family business!
